Omatek Launches 8” Notebook latest version into Nigerian Market

One of the leading Original Equipment Manufacturers in Nigeria, Omatek Computers Limited has launched the latest version of her 8” notebook into the Nigerian market.

Speaking at the launching ceremony which was held at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers in Lagos recently, Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of the Omatek Computers, Engr. (Mrs) Florence Seriki noted that the notebook is the solution to the dare need to provide systems that Nigerian youths and teachers can deploy effectively for a functional education in the country.

According to her the notebook which is the latest version is suitable for the Nigerian environment and made with the Nigerian students both in the secondary and tertiary institutions.

Explaining to the media men present at the launching ceremony, Seriki argued the introduction of the new brand was borne out of the exigency to end the incursion of foreign brands in the country which uses obsolete technology and have no capacity to meet educational and creative needs of the Nigerian youths.

While expressing her sincere appreciation for the support given to local computer industries by the federal government and for creating conducive atmosphere for foreign investors to assist the information technology sector in Nigeria, Seriki stated, however, that the privilege is now being grossly abused.

“We are now beginning to notice an undue advantage that is being granted the foreign computer firms who come into the country and take Nigerians for granted.

It is now common sight to see how the representatives of these foreign brands come to Nigeria and gain easy access to the country’s seat of power, take photographs with high profile state officials in the Presidency and the next they will begin to bring in they their products into the country and camouflaging as OEMs as if that is all that it took to be one.”

Speaking further, Omatek boss noted that the foreign computer vendors have turned the country into a dumping ground for their products warning that if unwholesome development is halted immediately it would have a far reaching negative effect on the country’s technological advancement.

“The far reaching effect of this unwholesome development especially from foreign companies is that it will stifle technological transfer and eventually lead to the demise of the technology in the country, as technological development is not possible in this sort of environment.” Said Seriki.

Seriki, a strong advocate for proudly Nigerian products also noted that it appears that all the song about local content and the need to promote the culture of appreciating locally made goods by the Nigerian authorities was mere lip service.

According to her, “What could be more than that if in the same country where slogan for patronage of local goods daily rents the air and you wake up and read advertorials in the newspapers especially from a government quarters asking for foreign brands to be supplied to them.”

“With all sense of respect, we view this as highly unpatriotic act and it is very painful because as an OEM, such acts are immensely inimical to our existence as we are surely not given the opportunity to thrive with all the efforts and resources that we daily expends to see that our country comes out of the woods of technological backwardness.”

She expressed the urgent need for the country to begin to domesticate every industry, especially the technology sector which according to her most countries of the world are now basing their might including military, socio-economic and political.
