Engineering professional women celebrate theirs, honour Omatek Boss


It was moments of celebration of successes, achievement and great achievers when the women under the auspices of Association of Professional Engineering Women of Nigeria (APWEN) came together to mark the 25th anniversary of the body.

The event which witnessed anniversary lecture, educational outreach, student competitions, community enlightenment programmes, industrial visit, and anniversary banquet climaxed with awards to deserving female engineering professionals.

Prominently recognized during the week long event was Engr. (MRS) Florence Seriki CEO Omatek Computers Nigeria Limited who was honored for her immense contribution to the engineering profession in Nigeria and across Africa.

Other awardees include the five past presidents of the Association with Chief Executive Officer of Omatek being the only one who earned industry recognition from APWEN.

Speaking on the celebration, Seriki commended the Association, saying that the women are beginning to move from the mundane to more productive engagement.

While thanking APWEN for the recognition the Omatek boss called on the body to encourage engineering career for young girls and advanced professional knowledge of members through facilitation of continuing professional development and skills acquisition.

According to her, “Let’s seriously start to make conscious efforts to educate our girls and also start to create adult education centres for our women in the villages.”

In an earlier lecture in the course of the celebration, Seriki affirmed that that g ender has nothing to do with any profession, advising that people should always strive hard to be the best irrespective of the sex.

The theme of the Anniversary is “Participation of Women in Science, Engineering and Technology Then and Now and Future,” and was fully attended by top dignitaries from both corporate and the public sectors including her Excellency, the deputy Governor of Lagos Mrs. Adebisi Sosan.
